Cynthia D. VanDyke's Obituary
Cynthia “Cindy” Van Dyke age 80, died in Hospice Care in West Palm Beach, Florida on June 21, 2022. She was born in Celina, Ohio on July 13, 1941. She was the 3rd child of eight born to Welcome “Bud” and Freda Renner Dull and lived on the family farm until she moved to Florida at age 18. She married Carl “Bud” Van Dyke in 1960 and they spent 35 eventful years together before Bud died from cancer.
Cindy held many jobs over her lifetime. One of her favorites was teaching about recycling; she set an excellent example living her life employing the three r’s of reducing, reusing, and recycling. Cindy also spent many years teaching pre-school children and especially favored rascal boys! She was an avid reader of history and felt reading fiction was a waste of her time!
She knew her mind and held firm opinions about many things especially which restaurants were worthy of her attendance! Cindy had a red Mustang which she loved, red furniture, and most of all she wore red, always! Cindy was quite social, amassing friends wherever she went and gave elaborate parties many having an Elvis theme. She spent her last years at Cresthaven, an assisted living facility, where she continued socializing, attending meetings and church services. Over the years she faithfully attended the First Baptist Church of Greenacres and First Baptist Church of Hypoluxo.
The pride of Cindy’s life was her son, Carl. She was proud of his educational studies where he earned degrees at Florida State. His violin performances brought her great pleasure as did his many acting achievements.
Cindy was preceded in death by her parents, her older sister and brother, Susan Wehrkamp and Gerald Dull. She is survived by her son Carl of Boynton Beach, Fl, sisters, Carol Smith of Detroit, MI, Valerie Bass and Kathy Dull of Lake Worth, FL and brothers, David Dull of Kansas City, MO and Thomas Dull of Comptche, CA. She will be lovingly missed by many nieces and nephews.
Services will be held on Saturday, June 25 at 3:00 at First Baptist Church of Hypoluxo. Family and friends will gather before and after the service at the fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Heifer International in honor of her farm roots.
