David Jeffrey Basel's Obituary
David Jeffrey Basel, born on July 24, 1964, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, was called to his eternal home on August 3, 2025, in Boynton Beach, Florida.
Pastor David, or “PD”, as he was affectionately known, was a shining light in the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him. His journey on this earth was one marked by love, compassion, humor, and unwavering faith in God. His passing has left a void in the hearts of his family, friends, and many more whose lives were touched by him. He will be remembered for the profound impact he had on the lives of those who had the opportunity to sit under his teaching and preaching, sing in one of his choirs, or be involved in one of his musical productions, whether on stage or behind the scenes.
Those who knew David were drawn in by his infectious smile, sarcastic wit, his deep-rooted faith in Jesus, and his unwavering commitment to spreading love and kindness to everyone he encountered. He had a rare gift for making others feel at ease and like family in a moment’s time, leaving a lasting impact on all who crossed his path.
David is survived by his loving wife of 31 years, Reneé Rowan Basel, and their son Daren Basel. He also leaves behind his mother, Carolin (Tedesco) Basel, his brother Jerry Basel (and his wife Trudy), and his sister Kathi Basel. His memory will live on in his in-laws, nieces and nephews, many extended family members, a close-knit group of lifelong friends, and a large, diverse group of friends, many who considered him family.
David is preceded in death by his father, Gerald Basel.
Because he was loved by so many across this nation, we will be holding two Celebration of Life services to honor him. The first one will be held on August 22, 2025, at 6:30 PM at Lakeview Baptist Church in Delray Beach, Florida. The second one will be held on October 11, 2025, at 10:30 AM at Brightmoor Christian Church in Novi, Michigan.
