Dominic A. Zaccheo's Obituary
Dominic A. Zaccheo, age 85 of Delray Beach, Florida, formerly of Tillson, NY, died on April 21, 2013. He is survived by his wife Joan Zaccheo at home, his children Dominic Zaccheo, Jr. (fiancée Maureen Canosa) and Donna (Craig) Walker; his grandson Ryan (Heather) Walker and his great-grandchildren Landon and Brooklyn Walker. Also left to his memory are his brothers Lawrence Zaccheo, Joseph (Mary) Zaccheo and Robert Zaccheo, many nieces and nephews and his best friends Andy and Fran Donato. Dom served in WWII as a Navy Seabee. He received the American Theatre, Asiatic Pacific Theatre and Victory Medals for his service. He was a proud and active member of the Sampson WWII Veterans Association. Dom had retired from a long career with Metropolitan Life Insurance Company having received numerous sales and achievement awards. Upon retirement, he and Joan relocated to Delray Beach, Florida.
Dom lived his life with deep resilience, strong will, playfulness and good humor. His last years were not easy. Always used to being in control, he found it hard to concede to his body's imperfection and the growing need to depend on others for support. Always a giver, now he had to receive. Always the one in charge, he became the charge of others. Love at this stage of life seems more and more to be about letting go. We had to let him go, and we did. Yet, there is so much of him that we get to keep.
Dom strongly believed in family, country, God and Notre Dame. He was there for us our whole lives as an example, provider, mentor and cheerleader. When we succeeded he stood back and took no credit, and when we failed he was by our side. We can see him now, with those sparkling blue eyes and his irrepressible and ever present smile, waiting for us in Heaven as the “Master of Ceremonies” one more time.

A memorial service and inurnment will be held Friday May 3, 2013 at 2:00 PM in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Rich Barbour of Advent Lutheran Church, Boca Raton, FL officiating.
