Dr. Dan Reikes' Obituary
Dan Reikes, M.D., 93, of Lantana , Florida, passed away on November 14, 2014. He is survived by his loving wife of 71 years, Anita Scherer Reikes, his children, Marc Reikes (Debra Reikes), Vicki Reikes Fox (Rabbi Steven Fox), and Jill Reikes Bauman (Steve Bauman), and his grandchildren Stephanie Reikes (Mitchell Momanyi), Bailey Reikes Fox, Adam Lee Fox, Jay Bauman, and Barrie Bauman Silverman (Cole Silverman). He was predeceased by his parents, Max and Sophie Reikes, and his brother, Jerry Reikes.
Dan was born and raised in the Bronx. He earned his medical degree from the University of Minnesota. After serving his country in both World War II and the Korean Conflict, Anita and Dan moved to Hattiesburg, Mississippi, where Dan established his radiology practice which grew to become Hattiesburg Radiology Group. While in Hattiesburg, Dan served as President of Congregation B'nai Israel and was honored as a Fellow of the American College of Radiology.
When Dan retired in 1986, he and Anita moved to Ft. Myers, Florida where they enjoyed 27 years of active, independent living. Endowed with a life-long love for learning, Dan enjoyed a challenging bridge game, a good book, boating on the open waters and, especially, the stock market.
In early 2014, Anita and Dan moved to Lantana, Florida.
Funeral services were held November 16, 2014 in Lantana. The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Temple B'nai Israel, 901 Mamie St., Hattiesburg, Mississippi 39401 or Henry S. Jacobs Camp, 3863 Morrison Rd., Utica, MS 39175.
