Elmer McDaniel Nichols' Obituary
ELMER McDANIEL NICHOLS November 30, 1916 - May 23, 2012 Age 95, passed away peacefully in his home on May 23, 2012, after a courageous battle with cancer. After graduation from high school, Elmer completed a two year business course, before joining the Navy in 1942. He was stationed in Guantanamo Bay Cuba where he met his beautiful wife, Margarita, and started a family. After two years in the Navy, Elmer was employed by the Federal Government and continued to work in Guantanamo for another eight years before moving his family to Rota Spain. He later transferred to Naples Italy and then finished his career with the Federal Government in Virginia. After his retirement, Elmer and Margarita settled down in Lantana, FL and have remained there for the last twenty-five years enjoying their children and grandchildren. Elmer enjoyed playing ping pong at the Howard Park YMCA bi-weekly with his friends, a fun pastime from his youth. Elmer was also an avid tennis player and enjoyed sailing. Elmer is survived by his wife of 65 years, Margarita Wilson Nichols; his sons, Edward E. Nichols (Mary) and William F. Nichols (Donna) and his daughter, Linda N. Dusty (Jim). Elmer was blessed with nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was pre-deceased by his oldest daughter, Margarita N. Simmons (Michael). A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, May 25, 2012 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Palm Beach Memorial Park .
