Mr. George Brodi's Obituary
George Brodi, age 93 of Palm Beach Gardens, FL, passed away April 17, 2015. Mr. Brodi had been a resident of Palm Beach Gardens since 1968. He was born April 25, 1921 in Palmerton, PA, son of the late Vaszely (Charles) and Maria (Kinek) Brodi. He was a devout member of the Holy Apostles Byzantine Catholic Church, Lake Worth, FL. George served in the US Army from 8/26/1942 until 12/8/1945. He was a Tech5th Grade with the 533rd Ordnance Heavy Maintenance Tank Company serving in Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland and Central Europe. He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, American THR Service Medal, European THR Service Medal w/4 bronze stars and in January of 2001 was awarded the Medal of the Jubilee of Liberty by the French Consulate for participation in the Invasion of Normandy. After his service he worked for the New Jersey Zinc Company of Palmerton, PA as a Lab Technician. In 1956 he and his wife, Elizabeth moved to Cincinnatti, OH where he worked for the National Lead Company of Ohio and the Fernald Corporation as a Technician and Engineer in the development of uranium for use in nuclear power plants. While working, he attended the University of Cincinnati and graduated with a BS in Metallurgical Engineering. In 1968, he, Elizabeth and son Mark George moved to Palm Beach Gardens, where he was employed as a Materials Engineer with Pratt and Whitney Aircraft until his retirement in 1987. In 1979 he was awarded the prestigious IR 100 award for the invention of the F100 Compressor Stator Link-one of the most significant technical products of the year. He is survived by his wife of 62 years Elizabeth (nee, Guy) and son, Mark George, and sister, Irma Hardy of New Orleans, LA. He is also survived by his precious granddaughters, Caroline and Nicole and numerous nieces & nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, brother, John Brodi of Palmerton, PA and sister, Anne Burkhardt of Ft. Pierce, FL. Visitation and Services will be held at Palm Beach Memorial Park Funeral Home, 3691 Seacrest Boulevard, Lantana, FL 33462, (561) 586-1237 from 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM on Monday, April 27, 2015 with entombment immediately following with Military honors presented by the US Army.
