George Sutton's Obituary
George C. Sutton departed this life on 2-10-19 as a memory care client at Pacifica Senior Living in Greenacres, Florida under the care of Vitas. George was born on 10-31-27 to Bert and Carrie Sue Sutton in Bethel Connecticut. George was the seventh of seven boys – Darius, Bert, Don, Russ, Bob, and Jack – and one sister June. George always said once his parents had him they figured they finally got it right and they quit.
George served in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific during the final year of World War II. George and his late wife Louise Sutton divided most of their lives together between Connecticut and Florida. George worked as a foreman at R.T. Vanderbilt Company in Norwalk, Connecticut for many years. When he retired, he and Louise moved to Florida, initially living in Riviera Beach and later in Greenacres. George spent many enjoyable decades in Florida, eventually working with the caring staff and developmentally delayed clients at the Palm Beach Habilitation Center. The last 5 of George’s 91 years saw him gradually slip into failing health and dementia. His brother Jack and in 2013 (at Jack’s passing) his nephew John oversaw George’s care during the final years of his life. George lived and died peacefully - a kind man who despite dementia never lost his sense of humor. He always tried to practice the Golden Rule.
A brief memorial service will be held at 12:45PM on Thursday 2-21-19 at the National Veterans’ Cemetery. Those wishing to honor George’s life are asked to perform 3 acts of random kindness.
