JOHN IRVING SANDERS John Irving Sanders, affectionately know as "Sandy" or "Jack" took his last flight surrounded by his family and special friends on Saturday, July 9, 2011 at JFK Hospice of Palm Beach County following a six month illness. Born February 23, 1932 in Medina, OH, he lived his early years in Cleveland and the Bahamas and moved to Lake Worth in 1942. He graduated from Palm Beach High School in 1951, attended PBJC and various Aeronautical trade schools where he received his A & P certificate. John worked in general aviation 42 years at Florida Airmotive in Lantana and Boca Raton retiring in April 1994. Survived by the love of his life of 58 years, Betty Jeanette (Miller) Sanders. Daughters: Dr. Bettina S. Tucker (Dr. W. Mark) of Temple Terrace, FL; Jeanne S. Grandy ( William Jr.) of West Palm Beach, FL; and Angela J. Maki (Eero) of Atlanta, GA. Grandchildren: Heather Bennett, Heidi Harris, William Grandy and Jeremy Grandy, Henry, Charlie and Thomas Maki. Two step-grandchildren, Kim Bode and Timothy Tucker. Great grand children: Hayleigh, Gracie and Katie Bennett and Grady Harris and Savannah Grandy. Three step great grandchildren, Will and Rob Bode and Madison S. Tucker. Plus many friends and "surrogate" children he called his own. He mentored many young men in the aviation field at both Lantana and Boca Raton. John served in the military in the Naval Air Reserve for five years and the US Army two years. His job was his hobby and enjoyed many aspects of the aircraft industry and all his pets. Preceded in death by his infant daughter Julia Irene in 1966, and parents John E. Sanders and Bettina Rae Kennedy. In lieu of flowers donations to Hospice of Palm Beach County at JFK or Peggy Adams Animal Rescue League. Visitation will be from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM Sunday, July 10, 2011 at The Palm Beach Memorial Park Chapel. Services will be Monday, July 11, 2011 at 2:30 PM at The Palm Beach Memorial Park Chapel, 3691 Seacrest Boulevard, Lantana, FL 33462, (561) 586-1237.
