Pauline Forbes' Obituary
Pauline May Forbes was born September 1933, in Kingston Jamaica West Indies. She worked at National Dry Cleaners in Kingston where she met and fell in love with her husband Hugh Forbes.
Hugh emigrated to Birmingham, England where he later sent for Pauline to join him. They purchased a home at 155b Heathfield Rd. In 1956 their son Hugh Forbes Jr was born; he was their only child.
1972 the family migrated to Brooklyn New York where they lived on Cleveland Street for several years. During that time Pauline was able to find employment as Personal Assistant to dancer Agnes De Mille, who choreographed the movie Oklahoma. Agnes’ uncle was Cecil B De Mille (Director of The Ten Commandments.) Pauline traveled extensively with Agnes and was able to rub shoulders with the likes of Cary Grant, Gregory Peck, and several politicians.
Hugh longed to own his own business and through her love and respect for Pauline, Agnes helped to make that dream a reality. They opened Tender Care Dry Cleaners in Richmond Hill Queens NY which they owned and operated until they retired.
Pauline leaves behind a brother Ronald Hitchins and was preceded by other siblings Madge, Evans, Grace, Tony, and Homer Hitchins.
After retiring Pauline and Hugh moved to Florida to be closer to their son Hugh and his children Jason, Jainel and Jazzlyn Forbes, and Laura Doan. Pauline also leaves behind great grandchildren, Jordan, Jason Jr and Jaden Forbes, Cassiah, Calliah, Cannon and Cai’Ri Cunningham, Josiah Alfonso and Lailani Doan.
In 2008 Pauline had hip surgery which brought on a series of strokes. She then needed around the clock care and was transferred to Medicana Nursing and Rehab Center. There she received loving care for over 12 years. Close to her passing we decided to bring mom home so the family could care for her until the Lord called her home June 17th, 2021.
