Robert Borges Monteiro Sr's Obituary
Robert "Uncle Robert" Borges Monteiro, Sr., (92 years young) was born July 15, 1930, in Bloomfield,
New Jersey to the late Olympio and Elizabeth (Fields) Monteiro. He departed this life on
June 26, 2023, at the Traymore of Park Cities in Dallas, Texas.
He and his many brothers and sisters grew up in Bloomfield, New Jersey. He served in
the Korean War while in the United States Army. After leaving the Army, Robert worked a
variety of jobs before settling on a career driving for ShopRite stores where he eventually
retired. Robert was a 32nd degree Mason and served as the highest-ranking officer in his
Masonic Lodge in Newark, NJ for many years. He was a Deacon for more than 45 years
at New Light Baptist Church in Bloomfield, New Jersey and St. James Missionary Baptist
Church in Riviera Beach, Florida.
Uncle Robert or Deac as he was so affectionately called, leaves behind a legacy of love.
He was a big man, with a big voice, a big smile, and a big heart!
Robert was preceded in death by his loving wife, Doris Elaine (Walker) Monteiro and his
only child, Robert Borges Monteiro, Jr. He leaves to cherish his memories, his grandsons,
Perry and Spencer Monteiro; his nieces, Donna Johnson, Michelle Fleming and Sherryl
Scott and nephew, Nesbit Johnson who cared for him; and a host of especially loved
nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Visitation is from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, July 13, 2023, at Palm Beach Memorial Funeral
Home, 3691 Seacrest Boulevard, Lantana, Florida. A funeral service will be held in his
honor on Friday, July 14, 2023, at 10:30 AM. at the South Florida National Cemetery in
Lake Worth, Florida with Reverend Griffin, officiating.
