Saralee Drubner Surett's Obituary
Saralee Surett, 74, a much-loved school teacher, doting mother and grandmother, and competitive golfer and tennis player, passed away peacefully on August 13, in her home in Lake Worth, FL, after a brave battle with cancer.She was born in Waterbury, CT, to Hy and Florence Drubner, and attended Lesley College before moving to New Jersey to raise a family and enjoy a long career as an elementary school teacher. As a teacher she was loved by her students as she loved them. During a twenty year career she was the recipient of several awards for excellence in teaching, and in 2001 was the subject of a feature in Parade magazine lauding her for her enthusiasm for her students. She also excelled on the tennis court and the golf course. She was a member of Twin Brooks, and later Westlake Golf Club in NJ, as well as the Fountains Country Club in Lake Worth, FL. She won numerous local and club competitions, and held the distinction of hitting seven holes-in-one. She is survived by her husband, Barry, and her three children, the twins Joel Simberg, an attorney living in Chicago, and Stephen Simberg, a managing director of Credit Suisse, also in Chicago, and Mike Edison, a writer and musician living in New York, as well as three grand children, Zachary, Jordan, and Brandon, and her brother, Norman Drubner, of Washington, CT. A Jewish Graveside Funeral Service will be held 1:30 PM, Sunday, August 17, 2014 in Beth Israel Cemetery, US Highway 1 North , Woodbridge, NJ 07095, (732) 634-2100.
