Virginia Finnerty's Obituary
Virginia Finnerty, 101, of 443 SW 8th Ave Boynton Beach, FL, died peacefully on December 5, 2025. “Ginny” was born in Lawrence, MA on December 3, 1924, as the only child of Walter and Marion Mooney. She attended Rollins Middle School and later Lawrence High School before following the family to Williamsport, PA to earn her high school degree. As a young woman, she had the honor of announcing the end of World War 2 over the intercom at a military factory to the deafening cheers of relief from the employees.
During her 25-year marriage to James J. Finnerty, she raised her two children, Sharon and Jim, in Danbury, CT. She took them on adventures to Westport beach, ski slopes in Vermont, and summers at Candlewood Lake. She was a loving daughter who single-handedly took care of all aspects of the home including the daily care of her parents and dear aunt Alice. For 70 years, they led cheerful lives going to the ocean and enjoying long car drives. She worked as a real estate broker for Danbury Real Estate best known for the Candlewood Lake seasonal vacation rental market. A second notable career was at the world-famous Plaza Hotel where she was the manager of the front desk staff.
Virginia is survived by her two children: five grandchildren - Patricia Wynne of Rochdale, MA, John Wynne of Boynton Beach, FL, Stacie Waldmann of Ilvesheim, Germany, James Brendan Finnerty of Cambridge, MA, and Connor Finnerty of Brooklyn, NY. She also was blessed with eight great-grandchildren Collin and Courtney Nystrom; Summer, Willow, and Forrest Wynne; Lucas, Elias and Finneas Waldmann. It was a privilege and honor to provide for the dignity of Virginia to live in comfort in her own home. She will always be grateful to the dedicated team of caregivers, faithful friends like Anna Banana Wong who always made birthdays and holidays special with her thoughtful treats.
