William McKinley Begor's Obituary
William McKinley Begor was born in Norfolk, Virginia on September 7,1925 to William M. Begor and Sallie Ford Begor. He attended Palm Beach High School before enlisting in the Navy in 1943 during World War II. He proudly served in the Navy as a Gunners Mate, and ran an LST during the Normandy Invasion. He was honorably discharged and returned to West Palm Beach and worked for his uncles at Begor's Grocery. In 1948, he married the love of his life, Betty Huff, whom he was married to for 71 years until her death in 2019. After their marriage, he worked for the Carnation company, promoting Carnation Evaporated Milk and Powdered Milk. After leaving the Carnation company, he worked for PDQ and was instrumental in starting the first gas station/ convenience combinations. He moved on to work for Associated Grocers of Florida as a district manager. To be closer to home, he bought Arnold's Auto Parts in 1977.He renamed it Begor's Wholesale Auto Parts and Machine Shop and operated it successfully until 1999.He semi-retired and worked for Cold Air Distributors as an outside salesman until he fully retired at 75 years old.
He was a Paul Harris Fellow in the Lake Worth Suburban Rotary Club and organized many fundraisers for college scholarships.
He and Betty were charter members of the Sherbrooke Baptist Church in Lake Worth that later became Family Church Sherbrooke. He served many years as a deacon. Even at Arbor Oaks Assisted Living, where he lived the last 4 years, he established a Sunday church service which Family Church officiated. He loved it when the children came from the church and sang for them.
He is predeceased by his wife of 71 years, Betty Begor and his brother, Arwood Begor. He is survived by daughters, Judy Buchan (Larry) and Peggy Panczak. Grandchildren - Jennifer Blake (Jessie), Stephen Panczak, Christopher Panczak, Alissa Storm (Matt) and Brian McCombs. Plus, eight great-grandchildren and many friends.
