Grant Victor Burnett Jr.'s Obituary
Grant V. Burnett, Jr. was born in Covert Township in Van Buren County, Michigan on April 30, 1928. He graduated from Sexton High School in Lansing, Michigan. He served in the United States Army Air Corp from April 4, 1946, until honorable discharge September 7, 1946, and attained the rank of Corporal. He qualified as a marksman in 1947. He received the WWII Victory Medal and the Occupation Ribbon Japan. He attended Palm Beach Junior College in Lake Worth, Florida, following his military service. He played basketball for Palm Beach Junior College and was a lifelong sports fan, including the Miami Dolphins, Florida Marlins, Detroit Tigers, Vanderbilt Commodores and Michigan State Spartans. He also enjoyed going to West Palm Beach Expos and spring training games. He worked as an employee of Palm Beach County in the license plate office at the Palm Beach County Courthouse where he met his wife of 62 years, Mary Virginia (Wagner) Burnett, who worked in the tax assessor's office. He married her on June 12, 1952. He later worked briefly for Florida Power and Light and then worked for Florida Public Utilities in West Palm Beach, Florida, from 1953 until 1989. He also worked for many years as a doorman on weekends at the Rappallo South Condominium Apartments in Palm Beach, Florida.
He lived with his wife Mary for four years at Acacia Villas, in Palm Beach County. Florida. Then, lived with her in Lake Clarke Shores, Florida, from 1957 until 1997. He lived at Lake Clarke Gardens with his wife from 1997 until his passing. He is survived by his wife Mary Virginia Burnett and sons Owen Grant Burnett of Cookeville, Tennessee, and Brian Victor Burnett of Vero Beach, Florida. A visitation will be held on Tuesday March 24, 2015 from 12:00pm-1230pm and a funeral service from 1230pm-1:00pm at Palm Beach Memorial Park 3691 Seacrest Blvd. Lantana, Florida 33462. Internment will follow at 215pm starting from Lane #5. at South Florida National 6501 S. State Rd. 7 Lake Worth, Florida. Arrangements handled by Palm Beach Memorial Park 3691 Seacrest Bld. Lantana, Florida 33462.
